A & S Group is the culmination of decades of friendship and dreaming between Chris Attard and Charles Spiteri. Childhood friends, Chris and Charles always dreamt of operating their own restaurant or coffee shop. Their dream took a concrete shape when they went into business together back in 2012, opening the Cupcake Coffee shop in (Rabat) Victoria, Gozo’s Capital. Hard work, dedication and attention to detail and quality soon bore its fruit, and the Cupcake outlet became a noted meeting point for the young and young at heart. Undoubtedly, the excellent fare served at Cupcake – homemade cakes, muffins and other delights – contributed to the success of this establishment.
Buoyed by the success and the feedback of their clientele, Chris and Charles opened another venture in 2013 – the then Dukes Café at the Dukes Shopping Mall, once again in Victoria. Based roughly on the same formula as the Cupcake but with a wider variety of food served. Rebranded and totally refurbished to HoG after a year’s operation, HoG soon became synonymous for good food in a pleasant atmosphere.
Chris and Charles still had yet another dream to fulfill – establishing a small boutique hotel. In 2017, the opportunity arose when a very central site became available in Victoria, and adjacent to their first venture, the Cupcake. They engaged a top architect and once the formalities of planning applications were approved, started in earnest with the construction of this small hotel, Townhouse 17. Townhouse 17 will provide 9 rooms, with one room fully equipped for the mobility impaired and one room, slightly smaller, operated as a single room. The rooms boast all the top facilities normally associated with larger and more plush hotels, Townhouse 17 is set to open in late autumn of 2021. Incorporated within this hotel will be its very own restaurant, Chapeau, set to compliment both Cupcake and HoG, whilst providing bespoke service to the guests of Townhouse.
